About CLARO

We built CLARO because the test was never the answer.

25 years of watching students think — and watching assessments miss it entirely. This is the story of why we built something different.

Why We Do This Work

"For too long, edtech has been measuring student 'learning' and leaving behind the ghosts of what could have been."
Ghost learning

The Ghost in the Data

Our ELL/MLL students have been treated as a mitigation outcome — a number to manage, a gap to close. All the while, the beauty of their cognitive development has been ghosted by compliance metrics, time limitations, and systems that were never built to see them.

Brain

The 90-Minute Problem

Research is clear: students need 90 minutes of Socratic dialogue to meaningfully improve reasoning and critical thinking. There is only one teacher in each classroom. That math has never worked — until now. CLARO makes that dialogue possible at scale, every day, for every student.

No test

A Conversation, Not a Test

We designed CLARO to observe reasoning and measure it through DialogIQ™. A student never has to take a test. They get to have a conversation. The thinking is the assessment. The dialogue is the data. And the student is finally seen.

CLARO exists because every student deserves to be known not by their score — but by the quality of their thinking. We built the tool we wish had existed in every classroom we ever walked into.

— Dr. Aubrey Escobar, Founder & Chief Learning Architect

What CLARO means

L

A
Assessment
R

O

The name also draws from the Latin clarus (clear, bright, evident) and the Spanish claro (clear, of course, understood). Both meanings are intentional — CLARO makes thinking clear, and it speaks to students in both languages.

Why Chispa?

Spanish for "spark"

"We named her Chispa because that's what real thinking looks like: a spark. Not a blaze — not yet. Just the moment when something catches. When a student says something they didn't know they knew. That's the moment CLARO is built to find."

— Dr. Aubrey Escobar
